Celebrating Four Years of Dinner and a Movie Ministry
In September 2022, FUMC began hosting “Dinner and a Movie Night,” opening our doors to share a nice meal and enjoy a movie with our neighbors on the third Tuesday of every month. Now we’re coming up on the 4th anniversary of this ministry, while consistently serving 60-100 people each month over the last year!
Through trial and error, and with the help of a dedicated crew of volunteers and church staff, Dinner and a Movie has grown and expanded as an award-winning ministry of the church. In October of 2023, we launched a Hygiene “Store” and began offering much-needed hygiene items to our unhoused and food-insecure neighbors each month. In 2024, we added a Winter Clothing Pop-Up “Store” in the months of December and January. In June of this year, we began a partnership with Dignity Showers and Services, who provide access to clean, hot water and private showers via a mobile bath/laundry program, to be on-site during Dinner and a Movie.
The continued success of the Dinner and a Movie ministry is made possible by the generosity of our congregation and partner churches, and the dedication of our volunteers. We are ever grateful for your support!
Hygiene Drive
In September, we will host our biannual Hygiene Drive to collect much-needed hygiene items for our neighbors in need. The three items we run out of the most are shampoo, deodorant, and liquid body wash. Donations of those three items are appreciated at any time. Monetary donations specified for the Hygiene Store are also appreciated, as we are able to purchase our specific needs each month.
