Rev. Mike Wright-Chapman Bio

Mike Wright-Chapman was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and grew up in Crowley, Texas. He is a member of the North Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church. He has served since 2002 as Associate Director of Connectional Ministries on the North Texas Conference staff. His current responsibilities include children’s ministries, youth and young adult ministries, Safe Sanctuaries, summer camp programming, Christian education, and discipleship ministries.

Mike has served in six small, medium and large churches in youth and Christian Education ministries since 1981. He served as Minister to Youth at First United Methodist Church, Wichita Falls from 1987 to 1990. This is his second appointment on a Conference staff. He served the Central Texas Conference as Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries from 1996-1999. Mike is certified by The United Methodist Church in Christian Education (1990) and Youth Ministry (1992, the first year it was available). He received Foundational Training for Judicatory Leaders in the Prevention of Clergy Sexual Abuse at FaithTrust Institute (formerly The Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence), Seattle, Washington in 1996.

A graduate of Crowley High School, Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities-Religion from Texas Wesleyan University, Fort Worth, in 1984 and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Scarritt Graduate School, Nashville, Tennessee in 1987. He was consecrated as a Diaconal Minister by Bishop John W. Russell in 1988 at First United Methodist Church, Fort Worth. He was ordained a Deacon in 1997 by Bishop Joe A. Wilson at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church in Waco, Texas.

Mike is married to Kathy Wright-Chapman, Director of Academic Services at Education Service Center, Region XI in Fort Worth. They have one son, Matt, who is 14.
