Invitation to John Disciple Bible Study at FUMC

INVITATION TO JOHN - This 11-week, in-depth, high commitment Bible study is modeled after the basic design of DISCIPLE Bible study, which is based on these principles:

  • The Bible is the starting point for the study;
  • Preparation is expected on the part of individual participants;
  • Weekly discussion in the class builds community;
  • Video Component to better reach all of our senses (2 video segments each section):
    • Part 1: This includes a montage of images to coincide with a dramatic reading of a passage to be studied. The idea is that when we hear something read, we often get a different take on the text than reading it to ourselves;
    • Part 2: This features two conversations: The first one involves a biblical scholar (or scholars), and the second one takes place among a small group. Each focuses on a text being studied.
  • A mark of discipleship will be identified.

The author of this study, Robert D. Kysar is the Bandy Professor Emeritus of Preaching and New Testament, Candler School of Theology, and also a noted scholar on the Gospel of John.

Come learn more about this often misunderstood Gospel that is quite different than than the other three!
